As I mentioned before, I’m in a creative funk. I have been trying everything to get out of it…..checking out Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram to get some sort of spark of inspiration…..nothing. I was scrolling through my emails and came across this 30-Day Challenge for the month of June. I’ve decided to dive into the challenge by Serena at Thrift Diving to get me going. You can check out the challenge here. She challenge everyone to dive into transforming that space you’ve been wanting to do, but never got around to do it. I’ve decided to take the challenge and transform my daughter’s room/guess room/sewing room. I know a lot of slashes.
Check out the before pictures. Now beware….this room was my daughter’s room and this is how she left it when she moved out. I am so embarrassed to even show it because it makes me cringe when I see it. We usually close the door and pretend it doesn’t exist. It’s a mess, but it’s wasted space since she moved out.
I told you….A hot mess!
My plan is to have one side of the room as my craft/sewing space and the other side would house the bed. This room gets tons of light which is perfect for my project and I must have a guess bedroom because my entire family lives in other states, so this room has to have slashes. I will post updates weekly, so you can see my progress and that will force me to stay motivated.
Well, we have been traveling a lot. I can tell you March was my husband’s birthday month, April is my son’s birthday month, May is my birthday month and June is my daughter’s birthday month, so it gets busy around here celebrating these birthdays. My birthday was one of those milestone birthdays and we just had to celebrate. My husband flew us to Vegas to spend my actual birthday there and the next morning we flew to Los Angeles to aboard the Carnival Cruise for four days……we had a blast.
I want to thank everyone for sticking with me and I promise I will be posting more often.
Have a great day!
I wanted to give you guys an update of my starter seedling. If you recall, I planted basil and lavender seed in this starter kit I purchased from Walmart. I’m starting to see a little sprout…..so excited. My son enjoy watching it grow and he even track his grow progress on the door panel of our family room. Well here it is….
I’m on my way…..LOL. Well, at this rate I may have something by August.
Since I’m so impatient, I decided to also buy vegetable plants. I purchased some herbs for my garden, but since the weather is a little unpredictable now, I have them in my kitchen window. Hopefully, we will get some consistent weather soon.
I decided to get some of the herbs I use often which are; basil, parsley, thyme and tarragon.
I use Miracle Gro and terracotta pots
I’ve already use them in pasta, on pizza and on baked chicken. I love having them and I will definitely purchase more. Can’t wait until the weather gets warm.
Have you planted your herb garden yet?
How was your weekend and to the mother’s, how was your Mother’s Day?
It was beautiful here in the midwest…perfect weather. We spent our Saturday downtown…walking Michigan Avenue, catching a movie, and eating at one of my favorite restaurant, Heaven on Seven.
We took the little one to the Disney Store on Michigan Avenue and decided to catch the Spiderman movie after lunch. My husband and I fell asleep in the middle of the movie, I think it was because we had such a big lunch. Well, I don’t know because the guy behind us fell asleep as well….LOL.
Well, I love taking pictures of food, so I have a few for you. To my surprise, Heaven on Seven was having a crawfish boil…..you know I love crawfish. I was hesitate to try because I really haven’t had any good crawfish from a restaurant here, so I decided to just try an appetizer, one pound. Well, it was soooooo good, I should have known they would do it right. On top of the crawfish, my husband decided to get the all you can eat buffet, which included red beans & rice, black eye peas & rice, gumbo, catfish, chicken fingers, cole slaw and greens. It was just too much. You see why we fell asleep.
I wanted to share this recipe I found on Facebook. Lindsay at hellohue put her spin on this appetizer. Jalapeno poppers are one of my favorites and when I came across this recipe, I wanted to try it out. This is a very easy recipe to follow and it only has four ingredients (crescent rolls, cream cheese, jalapeno and bacon) yummmmmm! It’s perfect for parties or movie night with the family.
1 can of Pillsbury crescent rolls
2 tablespoons cream cheese
1 jalapeno pepper chopped (seeded)
You can find the complete recipe here
Note: I had a time trying to roll them, but I just decided to just roll them like a crescent roll.
They were so good, I will definitely make them again…..maybe this weekend. Cinco de Mayo is Monday and celebrations are going on all weekend. This would be a nice appetizer to serve. Oh, by the way, my husband and I tore them up.
This year I said I will try to start a little herb and flower garden by Jiffy. I was walking around Wal Mart and came across this indoor seeding starter kit. I thought I would try it out and see what happen, and it was only $5.00 for this kit and $1 for the seeds.
The directions are easy to follow. Gradually add warm water per pellet, so it can expand. Add more water as needed. When pellets are fully expanded, pour off any excess water.
Gently pull back netting on top of pellets. Fluff and level surface. Sow 2 – 3 seeds per pellet. I decided to only plant the basil and lavender. Some side say I should plant the peppers directly in the ground.
Place dome on tray and keep in a warm location away from direct sunlight.
Place dome on tray and keep it in a warm location directly away from sunlight. When first seeds sprout, prop dome open. When all seeds have sprouted, remove dome and place in a sunny location. After first leaves appear, but back all except strongest seedling in each pellet. It seems easy right? Well, we’ll see what happens in a month.
