Mardi Gras Mask

Happy Monday,

Since I can’t make it home for Mardi Gras, I was bring Mardi Gras to our home.  I’m putting some touches of carnival around the house and pretending…..LOL!! On tomorrow, I’m going to cook my Cajun dishes, turn up the Second Line music and pot open a bottle….It’s Mardi Gras.

I wanted to share one of the mask I made to place on my bar for the festivities.  This is my attempt to turn the house into a party….LOL

I made the little one.  This is easy to make and can be given to guest at your Mardi Gras party.

I purchased the large mask in New Orleans one year for our anniversary.  The colors are just gorgeous and it adds a little spice to the bar.

Can you tell I’m missing home? I’m so jealous of all the Facebook and Instagram picture of my family at the parades.

Valentine Project for the Kids

Hi All,

Every year for Valentine’s Day I’m usually so focused on getting our plans together for our anniversary and I end up getting my son’s classroom Valentine’s gifts at the last minutes….usually the night before.  Well, this time I decided to make them and they were actually done this past weekend….woohoo.   I decided to make these candy and heart flowers for the girls.  What girl does not like to receive flowers right?

Valentine Candy

This project really didn’t take too much time to make and I really didn’t need too many items.

I used:

Office file folder, heart stickers (Dollar General), scrapbook paper sheets (Michaels), “Heart” punch (Michaels) sorry I didn’t have a pictures similar here, regular hole punch, “Dum Dum” lollipops and scotch tape.

I punched out hearts using the different paper and then punched a small hole at the bottom of the heart to insert the lollipop stick.  The glitter hearts are stickers, so I placed that one on the stick first and secured the other hearts to the back of each side of the sticker. Once all three hearts are placed on the stick, secure with a strip of scotch tape at the base of the heart and roll it around the stick to make is just a tad bit thicker than the hole.  That’s it!  Pretty simple right?

Love and Live Pink Pillow Project

I wanted to share with you guys another pillow I made….I know I know another pillow, but you will see a lot of pillows from me.   I just love making them because I love how they can change the room, and they are a very easy cost-effective home accessory to make with a lot of impact.

Live Pink 2 Edit

This pillow was inspired by my good friends at be happy live pink. If you have not visited their website, you have to check it out.  It’s a uniquely trendy clothing and accessory online boutique that carries the latest clothing trend, jewelry, scarves and even cute girly iPhone 5 cases. Check them out!

I just have to tell you items I just love.  I know you didn’t ask me, that’s ok.  I’m loving the Floral Cut Out Peplum (here), the Knit with Zipper accents (here), the leather jogger pants (here), the printed Cami jumpsuit (here), the Rhinestone studded 2 piece jogging set (here), and I also love the girly iPhone 5 cases (here)……aren’t they cute? Check out their website @ be happy live pink and tell me what you think.

Well, here are the Pillow Details:

The Pillow insert is 12″x 16″, fabric is a cerisa velvet (very soft) and a 16″ pink zipper.  The fabric was cut with an inch seam allowance which is 13″x17″, and I created a stencil for the letters on my printer.  They are actually 3 inches in length.  The “Live Pink” was printed on a 11 1/2 x 17″ copy paper and transferred to freezer paper.  Did you know you can actually iron the freezer paper stencil “glossy side down, onto your fabric and it keeps the stencil in place when it’s time to paint onto your fabric?  Just use another fabric between the iron any the paper. Just a little tip for you.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to iron on this fabric because of the texture, so I just taped it in place and traced the words onto the fabric.

I decided to use sequins, glitter and of course pink.  The “Live” word is filled in by gluing individual sequins using fabric glue, and the “Pink” word is filled in using Martha Stewart all-purpose glitter paint.

By the way, I also made the faux fur pillow behind it.  I actually made that for my bedroom, but I just love it in the family room.

Magazine Issue

Happy Friday Everyone!!!!! I hope you guys are staying warm.  It’s in the single digits here…..COLD.

I’ve been in this organizing phase lately and I’ve been wanting to do this project for a couple of years now but I never had the time.  I’m talking about organizing all of the inspiration photos in my magazines.  You see, I have a problem.  I love home decor and fashion magazines and I have a ton of them.  They are stashed in my office, my craft area in the basement, my bedroom, the family room and even in the bathroom.  I have a really bad magazine issue and it’s growing.  I even have a couple of magazines from 2006.  Well, I’ve decided enough is enough and toss some, but keep some of the ideas I love.  Here’s a picture of just a fraction of the magazines that was stashed in my basement craft area.

Magazine Organization

Just too many

I’ve decided to skim through them all and cut out all of the inspiration pictures and possible projects I want to complete and compile in one binder.

Magazine Organization 8

I took a regular 2″binder and took Post it tabs to label the different sections.  I glued the pictures onto the three hole copy paper. It will be easy for me to add more pages to the binder.

Magazine Organization 9

The home decor categories I have in the binder are Living room, dining room, bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, accessories and projects.

I still find it hard to depart from my magazines, but I have to keep telling myself “it’s better for you”.  I’m thinking about taking some of the covers and framing them.

Well, this project has taken all week to complete.  And after all of this, I purchased another magazine this morning.  I HAVE A PROBLEM!

Do you have too many magazines?

Quick Wall Art

Hi All!  How was your weekend!

This weekend was snowy and cold, so I stayed in and worked on some organization projects and this quick wall art project.  I decided to clean out part of my basement and challenged myself to make a project with items I already have.  I started with these supplies.

Materials used: 8×10 wood frame, paint brush, white acrylic paint, matte framing board, E6000 glue, Xacto knife, wood words and a ruler.

First, I painted the frame white on both sizes.  While the frame is drying, I measured the board and cut out the backing with the Xacto knife.  Then, simply center and glue the wood word to the matte framing board. Voila!!!! Quick and easy wall art.

I will probably place these by the side table in our bedroom.

What do you think!

Vision for 2014

I have been reflecting all week about my vision for Inside Me: Nikki Thomas this year. My vision is to be more creative, attend a blog conference this year, post often, be organized and take risk.

Speaking of organizing, I absolutely LOVE this room…..from the soothing color on the wall to all the storage for crafts.  I love when everything is in its place and organized.  I can walk in this room and start working immediately.  This is going to be one of my inspirations for my work space.

Scrapbook room

I absolutely love it and I can accomplish it on a budget.  Staying on budget is a must because I have to organize my project work space and my office.
